The death penalty can be considered an unsuitable punishment for several reasons. The strongest argument is that we have no right to kill other humans. The right to live is the fundamental right of any human being, and no one can infringe this right, irrespective of the person's deeds. Moreover, innocent people can face wrongful execution. Such unfair sentences take away the lives of innocent people and make other citizens lose faith in law and justice. And besides, sometimes criminals repent of their acts. In this case, they should be given a second chance to improve themselves.

On the one hand, supporters say that capital punishment deters crime effectively as people have a fear of the death penalty, which stops them from committing offenses. Moreover, capital punishment defines the seriousness of the offense, so a person will think twice before committing such an offense. Also, the death sentence is a form of revenge that gives a feeling of peace to the victim. Otherwise, a victim is often converted into an offender to take revenge and punish the accused alone. Additionally, capital punishment is a way to avoid imprisonment costs, which the government can otherwise use in development.
