300 spelling words are showing alphabetically; they are widespread words in daily life. Upon 4th grade, your spelling words should be over 1500, by which you can write short essays or letters now.

Since 4th grade, we organize all words of the grade alphabetically, not by usage frequency. Because these words aren't as often as previous words, children need more review to master them. An alphabetic list helps to seek a word.
