Question:
Fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas, are used in many countries, while in some countries, alternative energy sources, including wind and solar power, have been encouraged. Is this trend a positive or negative development?
Answer Hints:
Pros and cons question. This question is easier to answer with "encourage and promote the use of alternative resources." The description of fossil fuels in the first sentence is a background, not an argument content. Examples appear in the topic: wind, solar power, are renewable energy sources, which are different from nuclear energy, so it is not appropriate to discuss nuclear energy on this topic.

Advantages:
  • Use renewable resources;
  • Increase energy supply;
  • Stabilize prices and help everyday lives.
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Reduce pollution and climate change;
  • Avoid competition for fossil resources
Disadvantages:
  • Needs to destroy certain natural environments;
  • Affects animal and plant habitats;
  • Relatively expensive and requires state subsidies
