Question:
The professor is teaching a class on biotechnology and environmental science. Write a post responding to the professor’s question.

In your response, you should:
  • Express and support your opinion.
  • Contribute to the discussion in your own words.
An effective response will contain at least 100 words.

Professor:Today, we’ll discuss the possibility of reviving extinct species through genetic engineering. Scientists are making rapid progress in biotechnology, and some researchers believe it may soon become possible to recreate animals that disappeared long ago, such as mammoths or other extinct species. Supporters argue that bringing back extinct animals could restore ecosystems and advance scientific knowledge. However, critics worry about ethical concerns, environmental risks, and the high financial cost of such projects. What do you think? Should scientists revive extinct species and reintroduce them into nature? Why or why not?

Hannah:I believe reviving extinct species could benefit both science and the environment. Humans have caused the extinction of many animals through hunting, pollution, and habitat destruction, so we have a responsibility to repair some of the damage we created. Reintroducing certain species might help restore ecological balance in damaged environments. In addition, studying revived species could increase scientific understanding of genetics and evolution. Overall, I think this technology has exciting potential if scientists use it responsibly.

Kevin:Although the idea sounds fascinating, I do not think reviving extinct species is a good idea. Ecosystems have changed significantly since many animals disappeared, so reintroducing them could create unpredictable environmental problems. Furthermore, these projects would require enormous amounts of money that could instead be used to protect endangered species that still exist today. I also believe there are ethical concerns about creating animals in laboratories simply because humans have the technology to do so.

Answer 1
I agree with Hannah that reviving extinct species could provide important benefits for both science and the environment. Humans have contributed to the extinction of many animals through deforestation, pollution, and overhunting, so it seems reasonable to use modern technology to help repair some of ...

Answer 2
I agree more with Kevin because I think reviving extinct species could create serious environmental and ethical problems. Ecosystems today are very different from those that existed when many extinct animals were alive, so scientists cannot accurately predict how revived species would affect modern ...
