Professor:Today, we’ll discuss the expansion of major international sporting events. The FIFA World Cup has gradually expanded from 16 teams in earlier decades to 48 teams in future tournaments. Supporters argue that expansion allows more countries to participate, increases global representation, and gives smaller football nations valuable international experience. However, critics believe the decision is driven mainly by commercial interests, such as broadcasting revenue, sponsorships, and ticket sales, rather than by concerns about athletic quality or competition.
