Professor:Today, we’ll discuss military parades and national celebrations. The United States will soon celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding. Some people believe the country should organize a large-scale military parade to recognize its military strength, historical achievements, and global influence. Supporters argue that such an event could strengthen national pride, honor military service members, and celebrate the country’s role in international security. However, critics believe that large military parades may appear overly nationalistic, cost large amounts of public money, and send the wrong message about the role of military power in society. What do you think? Should the United States hold a major military parade for its 250th anniversary? Why or why not?
Lauren:I believe the United States should hold a large military parade for its 250th anniversary. The country has played an important role in global security and international affairs for decades, and military service members deserve recognition for their sacrifices. A national celebration could strengthen unity and remind citizens of the country’s historical achievements and responsibilities.
Chris:In my opinion, a massive military parade would not be appropriate. Although honoring military personnel is important, displaying military power publicly may encourage excessive nationalism and create negative international impressions. The government could celebrate the anniversary through cultural, historical, and educational events instead of focusing heavily on military strength.
