Professor:Today, we’ll compare historical exploration with modern space exploration. In the past, many geographical discoveries on Earth were motivated by economic interests such as trade, access to resources, and colonization. Because explorers and governments expected financial rewards, they invested heavily in voyages and rapidly expanded exploration efforts. In contrast, modern space exploration is still largely focused on scientific research, and many projects produce limited short-term financial returns. Some people argue that this is one reason why progress in space exploration has been relatively slow. Others believe that scientific goals are more important than profit and that space exploration should not be driven mainly by commercial interests. What do you think? Should space exploration become more profit-oriented in order to accelerate progress? Why or why not?

If companies and governments could earn profits from mining resources, tourism, or manufacturing in space, they would likely invest much more money into developing new technologies. As a result, progress in space exploration could speed up significantly.

Michael:In my opinion, space exploration should remain focused mainly on science rather than profit. Scientific research encourages international cooperation and peaceful development, while excessive commercialization could create inequality and political conflict in space.
