Professor:Today, we’ll discuss the role of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Recent research suggests that AI diagnostic systems can identify certain illnesses more accurately than human doctors, especially in routine or simple medical cases. Because of this, some experts argue that governments should officially license qualified AI systems to diagnose and manage minor health problems without direct involvement from doctors. Supporters believe this could reduce healthcare costs and improve access to medical services, while critics worry about safety, accountability, and the loss of human judgment. What do you think? Should governments allow AI systems to handle simple medical cases independently? Why or why not?

Emily:I support the use of licensed AI systems for simple medical cases. In many countries, patients must wait a long time to see a doctor, even for minor illnesses such as common infections or allergies. If qualified AI systems can provide accurate diagnoses, they could save time for both patients and healthcare workers. In addition, AI programs can analyze large amounts of medical data very quickly and may reduce human error caused by fatigue or stress. Of course, serious or complicated illnesses should still be handled by human doctors, but I believe AI could become a valuable tool for improving healthcare access.

Marcus:Personally, I do not think AI systems should independently treat patients, even in simple situations. Medicine involves more than identifying symptoms and selecting treatments. Doctors also consider emotional factors, unusual patient histories, and ethical concerns that AI may not fully understand. Furthermore, if an AI system makes a mistake, it may be difficult to determine who is legally responsible. Although AI can assist medical professionals, I believe human doctors must remain in control of all final medical decisions to ensure patient safety and trust.
