Professor:Today, we’ll discuss nuclear proliferation and global security. Some political theorists argue that when more countries possess nuclear weapons, the risk of war may actually decrease. According to this view, nuclear weapons create a powerful deterrent because the cost of military conflict becomes extremely high for all sides. Supporters claim that fear of mutual destruction can encourage countries to avoid large-scale wars and maintain peace. However, critics argue that spreading nuclear weapons increases the risk of accidents, terrorism, and regional instability. For this reason, the international community should limit the spread of nuclear weapons rather than encourage it.
