Professor: Today, we're discussing the possibility of a "cashless" economy where we can pay for goods and services only by card, phone, or QR code, and paper money is no longer used. Supporters say it's easier and safer, but critics worry about privacy and the risk of leaving people without bank accounts or smartphones behind. What do you think? Should we push for a totally cashless society, or keep cash as a guaranteed option?
Doug: I strongly support going totally cashless. Digital payments are much faster, which is highly desirable in today's busy world. They also reduce the risk of robbery for both individual citizens and business owners. If we approach this change thoughtfully, most people will enjoy the convenience, and no one will be left behind.
Brenda: I don't share Doug's point of view. What if there is a major power or Internet outage? That would make payments impossible, which could be extremely dangerous if the outage lasts for a long time. I suggest that we let people use digital payments if they want, but we should always require stores to accept cash from those who prefer traditional methods.
