Simple Past Tense

We use the simple past for complete finished actions. We often use it in stories.

They went to town last week.
He returned the book to the library and took another.

We form the Past Simple of "be" like this:

1) Positive: Singular

I was
you were
he/she/it was

2) Positive: Plural

We/you/they were

3) Negative:Singular (normal - contraction)

I was not - I wasn't
you were not - you weren't
he/she/it was not - he/she/it wasn't

4) Negative:Plural (normal - contraction)

We/you/they were not - We/you/they weren't

5) Questions: Singular

Was I right?
Were you right?
Was he/she/it right?

6) Questions: Plural

Were we/you/they right?
